New Missiology

A ‘new’ way of doing missionary work is being promoted by leaders of the emerging church movement. In short, the message missionaries are to preach is that people from other religions can keep their traditional religious beliefs and practices, but just add a belief in Jesus. This is not the true gospel of Jesus Christ. This ‘new’ evangelism requires telling people that their god[s] (of their nation, culture or tribe) had a son and that their god’s son is Jesus Christ. This is blasphemy. It misrepresents the true God who has revealed himself only in the Bible. The gods of the nations are not gods at all, but demonic spirits.

1 Corinthians 10:19-22
“… the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons , not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.  You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.”

The true gospel of Jesus Christ requires that people repent of their false gods and false religion, turning to the one true God and obeying him only.

The very first of  The Ten Commandments God gave to the nation of Israel, when they left Egypt to journey to the promised land, required them to forsake all other gods:

Exodus 20:1-6

“And God spoke all these words:

“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

“You shall have no other gods before (or besides) me.

“You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.””

And God instructed them that

Exodus 23:23-25, 31-33

“My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.  Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces …. I will hand over to you the people who live in the land and you will drive them out before you. Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods.  Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”

Deuteronomy 12:29-31

“The LORD your God will cut off before you the nations you are about to invade and dispossess. But when you have driven them out and settled in their land, and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.”  You must not worship the LORD your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the LORD hates.”

Jeremiah 13:25 calls all other gods “false gods” and Deuteronomy 32:17 identifies them as “demons , which are not God”. And Galatians 4:8-9 says “Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.”

The New Missiology is a false representation of the gospel of Jesus Christ that leaves people unrepentant and unconverted without knowledge of the truth; and they remain slaves to their false gods still under the control of Satan.
