The materials provided here are sourced from a historic Holiness, Evangelical and Pentecostal biblical view. The set of beliefs from which the materials are framed is contained in the following “Statement of Doctrine“.
Every church, every religion, every cult has a ‘Statement of Doctrine’. That is, a set of essential beliefs that form the foundation to the members world view; and accordingly their lifestyle and code of conduct, and what they expect to find in the life hereafter when they die.
A true Christian position accepts the Bible as the sole source of authority. It alone defines truth, communicated by the Spirit of God, and therefore we submit to it to frame what we believe is true; and thereby what we reject as false.
The Statement of Doctrine highlights key points revealed in the Word of God, rightly divided, attested by time and the witness of Godly men.
2 Timothy 2:2
“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.”
(As you grow as a Christian, and in your knowledge of the Bible, and you learn of God as you walk in obedience to the Holy Spirit, you should examine for yourself and eventually prove that the beliefs set forth here are indeed true! You will also be able to prove why cults and false religions are in error because they deny and/or wrongly interpret Biblical truth, and any “spiritual” experiences they claim are not from the Spirit of God.)
Statement of Doctrine
- We believe in the eternal Godhead who has revealed Himself as one God existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, distinguishable but indivisible. (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
- We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom alone is salvation from sin and separation from God; who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, a unique individual being both God and man. (Luke 1:26-35; John 1: 1 8; Isaiah 7:14, 9:16; Colossians 1:15-17)
- We believe Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day, and personally appeared to His disciples. (1 Corinthians 15:1-5; Romans 4:25)
- We believe in the bodily ascension of Jesus into Heaven and His personal, literal and bodily coming again the second time for His church, and to establish His dominion over the earth. (Acts 1:11; John 14:23; 1Thessalonians 4:13-18)
- We believe that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, by which we understand that men chosen by God were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very words of God, which comprise the 66 books of the Bible. It is the unique written document through which God has revealed truth. The history recorded in the Bible (6-day creation and a young universe, the fall, the world-wide flood, the tower of Babel, the miracles, virgin birth, death and resurrection of Jesus etc) is to be accepted as fact, and the foundation to a Christian worldview. (2Timothy 3:16; 1Corinthians 2:13)
- We believe in the the state of spiritual separation of the whole human race from God, an inherited sin-nature and the inability to attain to righteousness and restitution with God by one’s own works or effort. Only through being born-again received as a gift from God and through faith in Jesus Christ, is a person made righteous and restored to relationship with God. (Romans 5:12,18)
- We believe in the salvation of sinners by grace alone, through repentance and faith in the perfect and sufficient work of the cross of Calvary by which we obtain remission of sins, and the new birth. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 9:12; Romans 5:11)
- We believe that at death the spirits and souls of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation pass immediately into His presence in heaven. But the spirits and souls of the unbelieving – those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of Jesus Christ – upon death pass immediately into hell. (Luke 16:19–26; 23:42; 2Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; 2Thessalonians 1:7–9)
- We believe the sufferings and death of Christ purchased healing and wholeness for the complete person – spirit, soul and body. (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; James 5:14-16; 1Thessalonians 5-23)
- We believe in water baptism in the name of the Triune God as an act of obedience in becoming a child of God and disciple of Jesus Christ; as an outward testimony of what has occurred inwardly by faith; thereby fulfilling the command of Christ. (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:36-39, 19:1-6)
- We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a subsequent experience to salvation and the new birth, the purpose of which is to empower Christians for service and which is evident by their ability to speak in tongues and operate in the other gifts of the Spirit as He determines. (Acts 1:8, 2:4, 8:15-17, 10:44-47, 19:5-6; 1Corinthians 12&14)
- We believe in the Spirit-filled life as evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit and a life of freedom from sin and separation from the world. (Galatians 5:22-25; Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 5:16; 1John 3:9-10; 2Corinthians 6:14-15)
- We believe in the covenant meal – commonly called communion or the Lord’s supper – as an expression of blood-covenant union with God. (Exodus 24:3-11; Luke 22:20; 1Corinthians 11:23-31)
- We believe in the reality of the kingdom of darkness and demons, and the person of Satan who is the ruler of this world. (Matthew 25:41; Luke 11:17-26; Luke 10:18-20; 1John 5:18-19; Revelation 20:10-15)
- We believe that the commission which Jesus gave to His disciples, to proclaim the gospel, to make disciples, to heal the sick and to drive out demons, was never rescinded and is a present command to be obeyed. (Luke 9:1-2; Matthew 28:18-20)
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church and that all true Christian believers are members of the Body of Christ. (Ephesians 5:23; 1Corinthians 12:27; Revelation 19:17)
- We believe in the priesthood of all believers, and that the five-fold ascension gifts –apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers – are given to equip all believers for ministry. (1Peter 2:5,9; Revelation 1:6, 5:10; Ephesians 4:11)
- We believe that the people of God, as a local community of believers, are to actively nurture, support and build one another up, working together in love and unity. (1Corinthians 14:16, 26; Colossians 3:16; Ephesians. 4:3)
